Royal Ascot Parking and Drop-Off: Car Parks, Taxis and Trains Explained
In short: Royal Ascot parking must be purchased, and the racecourse recommends pre-booking for a better car park before online sales close about a week ahead. On-the-day spaces are at Car Parks 8, 4 and 6. Taxis drop Royal Enclosure guests at Car Park 1 or 3, and everyone else at Car Park 3 or 6.
Royal Ascot parking works differently from any other meeting at Ascot Racecourse. On an ordinary race day the racecourse simply asks drivers to use Car Parks 1 and 6. During the royal meeting every space must be bought, the better car parks go to people who book early, and taxis are split between named drop-off points according to your enclosure. Below is what the racecourse itself publishes, followed by the option of not parking at all.
Where can you park at Royal Ascot?
Ascot Racecourse runs numbered car parks around the course, and at Royal Ascot all of them must be paid for. In its Blue Badge notes, the official travel page describes Car Park 6 as ideal for Queen Anne and Windsor Enclosure guests, and Car Park 8 as closest for the Village Enclosure. Hospitality packages include car parking, so check your booking before buying a space.
If you arrive without a booking, the racecourse directs you to Car Park 8 (card and cash), Car Park 4 (cash only) or Car Park 6 (cash only). All parking is subject to availability, you may be sent to a different car park on the day, and vehicles are parked at the owner’s risk.
Charges rise on the day itself. Check the current charge on the official Ascot travel and parking page before you set out.
Do you need to pre-book Royal Ascot parking?
Pre-booking is not compulsory, but the racecourse recommends it: booking ahead gets you a more preferable car park, subject to availability, at a lower price than paying on arrival. Pre-booked spaces are limited and expected to be fully allocated before the cut-off, which falls roughly a week before each racing day.
The exact cut-off date for each day is listed on the travel page and changes from year to year, so check this year’s dates rather than relying on last year’s.
Blue Badge holders have dedicated parking and are advised to pre-book for Royal Ascot. Anyone who misses the cut-off can display their badge on entry and will be directed to a forward parking area.
What is Car Park 1 at Royal Ascot?
Car Park 1 is where the racecourse lists the Royal Enclosure Entrance, and it is one of the two points named for Royal Enclosure guests to be dropped off and picked up by taxi. Royal Enclosure Members book their parking through the Royal Enclosure booking website, which opens from January, and separate Royal Enclosure car parking rules apply.
The racecourse’s picnic rules also single out Car Parks 1 and 2: a gazebo there must stay inside your own berth, and outside caterers are not allowed.
Where do taxis drop off at Royal Ascot?
For the royal meeting, Royal Enclosure guests are dropped off and picked up at Car Park 1 or Car Park 3. Guests in every other enclosure are directed to the taxi drop-off points at Car Park 3 and Car Park 6. On ordinary race days the single designated taxi drop-off point is Car Park 3.
Groups have one more option: minibuses with up to 16 seats, including the driver, may drop at the taxi rank just inside the entrance to Car Park 3. Coaches cannot drive down the High Street during Royal Ascot week because of traffic-flow restrictions, so they drop and park in Car Park 8 or 10.
The travel page also describes a separate VIP entrance run by the racecourse’s appointed official chauffeur partner. That entrance is not part of our service; we use the public taxi drop-off points above.
Can you get to Royal Ascot by train?
Yes. South Western Railway runs services to Ascot from Reading, Aldershot and London Waterloo, and Ascot station is a seven-minute walk from the racecourse. Oyster and contactless cards are not valid to or from Ascot, so buy a ticket in advance, and expect queuing systems and ticket inspectors at the station on race days.
Which way should you drive to Ascot from Surrey?
The racecourse’s own directions for drivers coming from the south and east are M3 Junction 3, then the A332 signed for Bracknell, then the signs to Ascot. From London and the north it is M4 Junction 6 and the A332 Windsor by-pass. For a sat nav, the address is Ascot Racecourse, High Street, Ascot, Berkshire, SL5 7JX.
How does a chauffeur drop-off and collection work at Royal Ascot?
A chauffeur removes the parking question entirely. We collect you from home in Surrey, drop you at the published taxi point for your enclosure, and return at a collection time agreed before the day. We have no special access or VIP entrance; we follow the racecourse’s published drop-off arrangements like any other private hire car.
The official FAQ currently gives 2.30pm for the first race and 6.10pm for the last, so a collection set a little after the final race leaves time to walk back to the drop-off point. If you want the car and driver on standby all day, hiring a driver for a day keeps the chauffeur with your party from pick-up to drop-off.
Setting out from Woking or Camberley? Those town pages cover local collection in more detail. For Epsom, Sandown Park and the rest of the county’s calendar, see our guide to chauffeur travel for Surrey sporting events.
Every booking is one fixed fare agreed before you travel, in a Standard Saloon, Executive, VIP or Minibus. Tell us your enclosure and preferred collection time through our contact page or on WhatsApp, and we can plan the day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is parking free at Royal Ascot like other Ascot race days?
No. For ordinary Flat and Jump fixtures the racecourse does not charge for its car parks, but at Royal Ascot every space has to be purchased. Hospitality packages already include parking, so anyone booked into hospitality should check their confirmation before paying for a separate space.
Can our group arrive at Royal Ascot in a minibus?
Yes. The racecourse admits an eight-seat people carrier as a car and classes larger vehicles as minibuses or coaches by seat count, so check its FAQ for the current bands. Minibuses of up to 16 seats, including the driver, may drop at the taxi rank just inside the Car Park 3 entrance.
Can I charge an electric car at Royal Ascot?
Electric vehicle parking and charging is in Car Park 3. Tell the steward on arrival that you want to charge, and have your ticket or proof of booking ready, because it will be asked for. Charging points are limited, so a space is only offered if one is free.
What if I miss the Royal Ascot parking pre-booking deadline?
You can still park on the day. The racecourse sends unbooked cars to Car Park 8, Car Park 4 or Car Park 6, subject to availability, and the on-the-day charge is higher than the advance one. Car Park 8 takes cards; the other two are cash only.
Are car park picnics allowed at Royal Ascot?
Informal picnics are allowed in the car parks, but formal entertaining, barbecues and hot food are not. Gazebos in Car Parks 1 and 2 must stay inside your own berth, and external caterers are not permitted in Car Parks 1, 2 and 7. Read the picnic policy before the day.
Does a chauffeur need a Royal Ascot car park label?
Not for a drop-off. A chauffeured car uses the taxi drop-off point for your enclosure rather than a parking berth, so you need no car park booking of your own. If you also want a car park berth for a picnic, that is a separate purchase from the racecourse.
Which Surrey towns can a Royal Ascot chauffeur collect from?
Anywhere we cover across Surrey, from our base in Woking to Camberley, Guildford, Weybridge and the villages between. Send the pick-up address, your enclosure and the number travelling, and we quote one fixed fare for the day before you travel.
